  • Advantages: Economical, easily available, flexible, immediate explanation, step-by-step development, no electricity needed, useful for mathematical derivations
  • Limitations: Visibility issues in large classrooms, not permanent, time-consuming writing, no complex animation/multimedia, handwriting affects learning

Exam Point: Textbook and teacher are not the same concepts. Textbook is a learning resource; teacher contextualises, explains and adapts content.

Exam Trap: Smartboard presence does not automatically make the classroom "smart." Technology is meaningful only when it supports learning objectives, interaction and feedback.

Multimedia Learning

Multimedia = Text + Visual + Audio + Animation/Video + Interaction
  • Uses: Complex process visualisation, virtual demonstration, language learning, scientific simulation, historical reconstruction, self-paced learning
  • Cognitive Load Principle: Too much text, animation, sound and decorative elements can overload working memory. Keep relevant content, reduce unnecessary decoration, chunk information, coordinate visual and narration, give processing time.

Exam Trap: More multimedia does not necessarily mean more learning.

Important Trap: Every resource appearing free on the Internet is not OER. An appropriate open licence is required for OER.
